As with every city in the United States, revenues to deliver critical municipal services are on the decline and yet the costs to provide paramedic services are not going down.
As a result, the City of Fountain Valley is not able to completely subsidize the cost of delivering Fire Department paramedic services. In order to ensure that quick response, high quality paramedic service is not compromised, the city charges paramedic assessment fees to partially offset the costs of equipment, medical supplies, training, and mandated programs.
The fee for residents of Fountain Valley is $300 per person for paramedic assessment and the fee charged to nonresidents is $350 per person.
Fortunately, residents of Fountain Valley have the opportunity to safeguard themselves from the potential of being charged a paramedic assessment fee. For an annual subscription of $60, participants in the Paramedic Membership Program are exempt from paramedic assessment charges.
