[ARCHIVED] DUI and Injury Hit and Run Traffic Collision

50th Anniversary Badge

As the first Officer arrived on scene, he saw a subject running away from the collision scene. Additional Officers arrived on scene and detained the subject, identified as 30-year Jose Luis Soto of Anaheim, at a nearby apartment complex. An investigation revealed Soto was traveling southbound in a black Toyota Camry on Harbor Blvd. approaching Edinger Ave. at a high rate of speed. Soto ran the red light at Edinger Ave. and broadsided a grey Toyota Tacoma as it entered the intersection traveling eastbound on Edinger Ave. This caused the Tacoma to strike three other vehicles. The driver of the Tacoma, a 29 year old male Hispanic, was transported to UCI for significant but non-life threatening injuries. The occupants of the other vehicles were not transported.

Based on objective symptoms displayed by Soto, Officers conducted a DUI investigation and determined he had been driving while under the influence of alcohol/drugs. Soto was arrested and booked into Orange County Jail for felony DUI and felony hit and run charges. Soto was treated for minor injuries.

Witnesses are encouraged to call the Traffic Bureau at 714-593-4567. Incident# 18-38176.
