[ARCHIVED] FOUNTAIN VALLEY POLICE DEPARTMENT TARGETS IMPAIRED DRIVERS WITH CHECKPOINT

In an effort to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved traffic collisions, the Fountain Valley Police Department conducted a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on Friday, August 26th from 9pm until 3am. The checkpoint was on Harbor Boulevard at the intersection of Heil Avenue, in the City of Fountain Valley.

A total of 1,200 vehicles traveled through the checkpoint and officers were able to contact 1,000 drivers. Three drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. 19 drivers were issued a citation for being a unlicensed, one driver was issued a citation for driving on a suspended license, and one driver was issued a citation for possession of marijuana. Four vehicles were impounded.

Funding for this operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
