The Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC) recently announced that the rebate amount for turf removal has increased from $2 to $3 per square foot, effective October 1, 2019. Fountain Valley homeowners and businesses that are interested in taking advantage of this rebate should visit www.mwdoc.com/save-water/water-use-efficiency for complete details.
To be eligible for the turf removal rebate program, applicants must NOT remove their existing grass/turf until they have had a pre-inspection and received a Letter to Proceed from MWDOC. Projects that are started prior to this are not eligible. Please note that MWDOC is no longer offering rebates for synthetic turf.
Fountain Valley homeowners who are interested in replacing their existing grass/turf with drought tolerant landscaping can also sign up for FREE landscape design assistance in conjunction with the turf removal rebate program. Participants in the program receive an onsite landscape design consultation and a landscape design, including recommended plants, an irrigation plan and a materials list, from a qualified professional – all at no cost. Participation is limited so visit www.mwdoc.com/save-water/water-use-efficiency today to apply! Interested homeowners must submit two applications, one for the turf removal program and one for the landscape design assistance program.
Fountain Valley residents who are removing grass/turf in their front yards or parkways (the area between the sidewalk and curb) will also need to be aware of the City’s landscape requirements in addition to the rebate requirements. For example, the City limits or prohibits the use of certain hardscape materials, such as cement, crushed rock, pebbles/stones and pavers, in these areas. The City also has requirements for how much of the landscaping must be living material. To make sure that your turf removal project goes smoothly, visit the City’s Turf Removal page at www.fountainvalley.org/489/Turf-Removal to find out what you need to know before removing your grass/turf.
