On October 17, 2019, at 4:26 a.m., the victim, a 33-year old male Fountain Valley resident, was sitting in his vehicle to warm it up prior to leaving for work. As the victim was sitting in his vehicle, 23-year old Bryan Marin-Hernandez of Garden Grove, entered the vehicle through the passenger side door. While armed with a knife, Marin-Hernandez demanded the victim’s wallet. A second suspect, 20-year old Angel Diaz-Zamora of Santa Ana, opened the driver’s door and demanded the suspect give up the vehicle or he would be shot. The victim did not see a gun but feared for his life and gave them his wallet. The victim attempted to drive away but he victim crashed into a tree and both suspects fled on foot. The victim ran to his home and called 9-1-1. It was sometime during the robbery and attempted carjacking that the victim was stabbed once in the chest.
Officers arrived and saw Marin-Hernandez and Diaz-Zamora fleeing the scene in a dark colored vehicle. Officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop and took them into custody. Officers found a knife believed to be used in the crime but did not recover a gun.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment of a single stab wound to his chest. He was listed in stable condition.
Marin-Hernandez and Diaz-Zamora were arrested for charges of attempted murder, attempted carjacking and robbery. They were booked into Orange County Jail.
