On June 9, 2016, the Fountain Valley Police Department held its first “School Bicycle Safety Program” at Cox Elementary, located at 17615 Los Jardines East. The “School Bicycle Safety Program” is an educational program for third and fourth grade students on proper bicycle safety.
The one-day program consisted of four Bike Patrol Officers who worked hands on with each participating student. Officers presented a PowerPoint presentation, which highlighted the rules of the road, bicycle safety laws, and proper bicycle safety equipment. Participants then had the opportunity to complete a bicycle obstacle course while accompanied by a Bike Patrol Officer. At the conclusion of the course, each student received a participation certificate, along with a new bicycle safety helmet.
