Despite not being permitted in the City of Fountain Valley, there are over 250 short-term rentals operating in the City. Defined as renting an entire home or just a room for thirty days or less at a time, the amount of short-term rentals has been growing as has the number of complaints from surrounding residents.
To address the issue, the Fountain Valley City Council recently adopted an ordinance, explicitly stating that short-term rentals are not permitted in the City which includes significantly increased fines of $1,500 per first offense, $3,000 for the second, and $5,000 for the third and subsequent offenses. The decision of the City Council was made after numerous public hearings and careful deliberation after listening to residents and short-term rental operators alike.
If you have questions regarding the operation of short-term rentals or would like to submit a complaint about one operating in your neighborhood, please call the City’s Code Enforcement line at (714) – 593-4444.
