The International Council of Shopping Centers Recon Conference is another success with 37,000 attendees and 1,200 exhibitors. This is the annual world’s largest global gathering of retail real estate professions. This is the City first year participating to educate the real estate world of the City’s approved Fountain Valley Crossings Specific Plan. There were approximately 60 cities attending the conference. Mayor Pro Tem Steve Nagel and City staff met with developers, property owners, brokers, professional services, and hotel franchisees to generate interest and opportunities for future developments. City staff had 15 scheduled meetings along with 20 informal meetings when City staff visited other exhibitors. Others stop by the City booth to inquire about the City and future opportunities. In the next few weeks City staff will follow up with opportunities generated from the conference to continue the dialogues. For example, a retail developer, The Festivals, would like to tour the community in the next few weeks.
