June 3, 2020 Update from the Community Services Director
Community Partners and Program Participants,
On Tuesday June 2, the Fountain Valley City Council passed the fiscal year 2020/21 budget. This budget, which begins July 1, 2020, recognizes the realities and impacts of the Covid – 19 pandemic related to community services programs, special events and classes. We thank the City Council and city administration for their leadership and vision as we continue to transition through this unprecedented situation.
At this time, the Community Services Department has canceled the following summer 2020 activities in response to the health directives from the State of California and the OC Health Care Agency:
- Senior Expo
- Concerts in the Park
- Great Fountain Valley Camp Out
- Movies in the Park
- Summer Aquatics Classes
- Youth Basketball Leagues
- Adult Softball and Soccer Leagues
While these programs and special events have been cancelled, when and where an alternative service delivery model presents itself the community services team will look to implement a supplemental program (i.e. The Great “Digital” Fountain Valley Campout or a Drive in Movie at the Sports Park).
In addition, the Summer 2020 Fountain Pen and recreational classes will have an all virtual format. You can find the Fountain Pen online at https://www.fountainvalley.org/208/Classes. When the governing health directives allow for in person programs and classes, our staff and contract instructors will work quickly to transition as permitted.
Youth sports leagues, much like the contract classes and special events listed above, will be implemented and allowed to return to the Fountain Valley Sports Park as directed by the governing health officials.
For information on the Fountain Valley Senior Center (which remains closed at this time) and essential senior services that continue to be provided (Meals on Wheels OC and Hop On Senior Transportation), please call the Senior Center at (714) 593-4446.
Lastly, our community parks and related amenities remain open at this time and we encourage participants to practice social distancing and adherence to the respective health guidelines. Please visit FountainValley.org for links to current information related to the Covid-19 Virus.
