*NEW* WELL CLEANING NOTIFICATION
The Orange County Water District (OCWD) owns and operates a series of underground injection wells in Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach to help prevent seawater intrusion into our groundwater basin, which provides more than half of your drinking water supply. For optimal performance of the seawater barrier, OCWD cleans one third of the wells every year.
From the first week of May 2009 through September 2009, OCWD will clean one well per month. Residents/businesses will be informed as to the schedule and planned work activity for each well. For the wells that are located in the curb lane on Ellis Avenue, we will notify local residents in advance about lane closures. Lane restrictions on Ellis Avenue are necessary in order to ensure safety, and we encourage you to obey traffic control signs at all times, and find alternate routes during these times.
There will be some noise from the site due to the pump rig and compressor. The activities may occur between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Each well site is projected to take four weeks to complete.
The next two scheduled wells to undergo cleaning are located adjacent to the westbound lane of Ellis Avenue between Mt. Langley and the I-405/Euclid off ramp. From approximately Wed., June 10 through July 14, the westbound curb lane will be closed just west of the off ramp to Bandelier Circle. From July 14 to August 21, the lane closure will shift a few hundred feet west from Bandelier Circle to Mt. Langley.
We apologize for this temporary inconvenience and appreciate your patience. If the contractor encounters unforeseen circumstances that will impact the schedule, an updated notice will be issued. Thank you for your cooperation in helping OCWD maintain a high quality water supply. If you have any questions, please contact Gina DePinto at (714) 378-3228 or gdepinto@ocwd.com.

The project is necessary to maintain a smooth riding surface after years of weathering and continual use.
Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin Monday, May 11, 2009, and is expected to be completed by June 2009, subject to weather delays and other unforeseen conditions. Work will not be scheduled on weekends or holidays with the exception of Los Jardines West and East as work on these streets will take place on Saturday in an effort to minimize impacts to the local elementary school. Traffic lanes may be closed at any given time; however, there will be at least one lane open to traffic at all times. Work hours will be from 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and lane closure hours will be from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. for work scheduled to be conducted Monday through Friday. Saturday work, including work scheduled on Los Jardines East and West, will be from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Please note that residents will also be notified by the contractor 24 hours in advance prior to the work.
While the project has been planned to minimize impacts to the motoring public, some construction impacts and inconveniences cannot be avoided. As with any construction project, expect traffic delays and temporary lane closures. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible. The City asks for the public’s cooperation and consideration while construction is underway. Please drive carefully through the construction zones.
The City would like to thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation during this project. Should you have any questions and/or concerns, please feel free to call the Public Works Department at 714-593-4433.
