Fully Graded, Awaiting New Roads, Parking Lots, Paving and Landscaping

June 9 , 2008 — The final stretch of construction efforts are focusing on completing the remainder of the park for opening in the Fall of 2008. The new ball fields and facilities in the expanded 23-acre area of the park are fully graded, and new roads and parking lots are graded and ready for curb, gutter,  and paving. Improvements around the recreation building have been completed and more of the final landscaping, trees and shrubs are installed every day. The fields and lawns in the front half of the park should receive hydroseed in July and should take 3-4 months to be ready for regular maintenance and use. With the end of the Little League season, construction crews can put the final touches on the already opened fields, parking lots, and landscaping.

The project is making excellent progress and the evolution from concept to reality of the sports complex features and park facilities becomes more evident every day. The new contours graded provide many new areas to have a picnic and enjoy the sports activities with the family. Grading on the new ball fields has just been completed and backstops, fencing, bleachers and bleacher walls have been constructed. The main entrance at the Brookhurst signal is now open. This entrance currently provides access to the new parking lot by the outdoor basketball courts as well as a connection to the Park and Ride and Boys & Girls Club parking lots to provide these areas with access to the signal.

When completed, the 78-acre Fountain Valley Recreation Center will provide the community and athletic groups with a total of 14 youth and adult ball fields, 4 soccer fields a utility field, tennis facilities, outdoor basketball, outdoor entertainment area, indoor basketball and racquetball facilities. The new facilities will also offer picnicking areas throughout the park and miles of natural and concrete walking and jogging paths. The sports complex and park will be able to accommodate thousands of users at one time.
