February 29 , 2008 —  The City's largest and most ambitious recreation project is underway at the Fountain Valley Recreation Center.  The City's contractor, ValleyCrest Landscape Development, is continuing with construction on the 78-acre rehabilitation and expansion of this facility.  The project is being constructed in two phases and both the Phase 1 and Phase 2 areas of the project are currently under construction.

Phase 1 improvements were reconfigured to accommodate the beginning of the Little League season and the contractor is working on preparation of the Little League fields, maintenance and road access, associated parking areas, walkways and landscaping for the areas to be opened to the public on March 8, 2008.

In spite of the rainy weather during the past two months, construction of the entire project is making excellent progress and the features of the future sport complex and park facilities are more evident every day.  Several parking lots have been paved, concrete and decomposed granite walkways are under construction, the majority of contours have been graded and even some landscaping have been installed, further helping the Recreation Center evolve from concept to a reality.  With the footprint of the ball fields graded and backstop fence poles erected, it is possible to get a realistic feel for the future sports activities and benefits this complex will offer the public for years to come.

After the March 8th opening of the Little League facilities, construction efforts will fully focus on the Phase 2 improvements to complete such features as the Great Lawn for concerts in the park and other passive recreational activities as well as the remainder of the sports fields for softball, baseball, and soccer.  Currently, the project is scheduled for completion in October 2008.
