The Patrol Division consists of 30 uniformed police officers plus 6 Sergeants and 2 Lieutenants who provide service to the community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Patrol Officers are the first responders to public service calls for service, frequently responding to high risk incidents and providing safety for the public. They are the City's first line of defense against the criminal element. Key to crime prevention and detection efforts, Patrol Sergeants direct Patrol Officers to work in areas and at times where crime trends are occurring. This is called COMPSTAT, our data driven crime analysis efforts to identify where crime is occurring and then to direct resources to those areas in an effort to apprehend or thwart criminals.
When not answering service
calls, Patrol Officers actively suppress criminal activity by patrolling
neighborhoods and business districts and conduct traffic enforcement activities.
They routinely participate in Neighborhood Watch and Business Coalition
meetings, community problem-solving activities, on-going Police training and
numerous other law enforcement functions.
