Notice of Election
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a General Municipal Election will be held in the City of Fountain Valley on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, for the following Officers and Measure(s):
For Two (2) Members of the City Council Full term of four years
Fountain Valley 911 Response Police - Fire / Essential City Services Measure
|To maintain 911 emergency response times, fire stations, police officers/firefighters/paramedics, anti-gang/drug programs, after school, senior programs; upgrade first responder disaster communication; repair stormwater systems to prevent flooding, streets / potholes / parks; other general city services, shall the City of Fountain Valley establish a one-cent sales tax providing $11.5 million annually for twenty year term, requiring public disclosure of expenditures, independent audits, all funds only for Fountain Valley.
The nomination period for Council Member offices begins on Monday July 18, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. and closes on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 4:00 p.m.
If nomination papers for an incumbent officer of the city are not filed by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2016 (the 88th day before the election) the voters shall have until the 83rd day before the election, Wednesday, August 17, 2016, to nominate candidates other than the person(s) who are the incumbents on the 88th day before the election, for that incumbent’s elective office.
If no one or only one person is nominated for an elective office, appointment to the elective office may be made as prescribed by § 10229, Elections Code of the State of California.
The polls will be open between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 8, 2016.

Applications for Voter Registration are available in the City Clerk's Office from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday (the city is closed every other Friday). You may also complete an application online at the Orange County Registrar of Voters website or at the Secretary of State website.
You will need to re-register to vote when you move, change your name, or change you political party.
The deadline to register to vote in California is 15 days prior to Election Day. You must submit your online voter registration application by midnight on the registration deadline. A time-stamp will be issued to your online voter registration application. If you register to vote using a paper application, it must be postmarked or hand-delivered to the Orange County Registrar of Voters office at least 15 days prior to the election.
Voting by Mail
Vote-By-Mail allows a voter to submit their ballot for a given election by mail. Information on how to apply for Vote-By-Mail is available at the Orange County Registrar of Voters website. This website accommodates languages other than English.
